Two deaths have been reported at initiation schools in Mpumalanga this year with the last group of initiates having returned home on the weekend.
President of the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South African Mathibela Mokoena says the province has had a successful season despite the death of these two initiates.
Mathibela has thanked officials from the Department of Health for ensuring that most of the 12 000 initiates in Mpumalanga returned home in good health.
He says one initiate died from a snake bite and another initiate died after not taking his regular medication.
Mathibela says they hope to have a better season next year with intervention from the health department.
